Weekly Group Runs
Please come meet us at one of group runs! Many of our weekday runs are about an hour in length, but you'll often find runners going shorter or longer. We recommend verifying each workout on our East Valley Runners' Meetup site before coming out as some times we move locations or change our start times.
Track: Lead the pack, run track! Join us for our weekly track workout at Mesquite High School in Gilbert at 5:00 AM. Mesquite High School is located at 500 S McQueen Road, Gilbert, AZ.
Hill runs in Las Sendas or Usery Pass: Meet us for a hill workout early Wednesday mornings at 4:30 AM. We meet at the Walgreens off Power and Thomas roads in Mesa when we run our route in the Las Sendas neighborhood and occasionally meet at the corner of McDowell and N Ellsworth/Usery Pass roads when we run the hills of Usery Pass.
More Hills in Las Sendas or Usery Pass: Thursday's group starts at 5 AM. From April through August, the group runs Usery Pass from the corner of McDowell and N Ellsworth/Usery Pass. The rest of the year, we meet next to the Starbucks at the corner of McDowell and Power Roads and follow part of the Mesa-Phoenix Marathon course.
Tempo runs on the Consolidated Canal: Feel free to join those of us who pickup the pace after a mile warm-up for a little running at pace, or just enjoy some easy miles on a weekday morning. We meet at 5:00 AM on Friday mornings on the southeast corner of Ray & Cooper roads.
Summer Trails: From April through August there's a weekly workout on Dynamite trail at San Tan Regional park starting from the Wagon Wheel entrance. We start at 5:30 AM and usually do and out-and-back of just over 5 miles, stopping at three places to enjoy the beautiful views. Bring your park pass or $6 for the self-pay parking (they do patrol the lot, even that early).
Long runs: Start times vary throughout the year, with 5 AM official starts in summer to beat the heat (ah, the joy of living in the Valley of the Sun), and 7 AM in the winter. For those needing to start even earlier, there’s always someone who wants to get a few miles in before meeting the group for the official start. Distances and paces vary. Since we typically run the canal, it's easy to go out for as little as 3 miles or as many as 20 or more. Our home base is behind the QT on the northwest corner of Gilbert and Warner roads.
Occasionally we will venture off the canal for a change of scenery and terrain. Some of our favorite alternative Saturday locations include:
- South Mountain: We meet at the second guard shack off the Central Avenue entrance and run either San Juan Road, Dobbins Road or to the TV towers and back to get in some hill training as well as to enjoy the beautiful scenery South Mountain has to offer.
- Ahwatukee Foothills: We meet in front of the Bagel Nosh at 48th Street and Warner Road for a change in scenery, to get in some hills, and eat bagels when we finish.
- Usery Pass Loop: Another favorite with more hills and great scenery along with coffee or smoothies after. Look for us in the parking lot next to the Starbucks off Power Road in Mesa.
Occasionally members will organize runs on other days and at other times and at different locations in the east valley. They may be canal runs, trail runs, or road runs. These are advertised on the club's Facebook page and/or via the club's Meetup page.
